June 2014 Newsletter
Dear Parents,
We have had a very busy last term and so many good days to tell you about its hard to know where to start!
Summer works
The Board of management has been fortunate enough to secure funding for summer works. The work will improve the sewage and drainage system in the school. This work will be under taken within the school building and in the car park. The school will have a thorough cleaning when this work has been completed.
Fr. Jim Killeen -Diocesan advisor has informed the board that a tax refund scheme now exists for self employed and public sector workers who wish to make a donation of 250 euro to the school.
We had our bi annual sponsored walk to Ardnahinch and Garryvoe beaches yesterday. The children enjoyed making their sand sculptures, playing, chatting and eating their picnic in the glorious East Cork sunshine. Thanks to the parents who transported the infants to the beach and also to those who walked and organised refreshments back at school.
Enormous thanks are due to the parents who pooled energy and enthusiasm to organise our first Family Fun Day. The children had an array of activities to choose from with the fun races being the highlight of the day with great commentary from the M.C. The parents too enjoyed their racing on a very sociable sunny Sunday. We are already looking forward to next year.
School Tours
Classes third to sixth headed to Bunratty Folk Park and Cragaunowen in county Clare for a historical tour exploring Ireland from Stone Age to Ireland in the 1900’s. First and second headed to Cork for their historical tour exploring Cork City Gaol ,The Planet Entertainment Centre, Lifetime Lab and lunch at McDonalds. The Infant room had a very enjoyable day at Fota Wildlife Park. The financial support of the Parents Association is gratefully appreciated as the cost of transport is covered by fund raising. All classes thoroughly enjoyed their school tours.
Our fifth and sixth class have completed their preparation course and have made their confirmation with our new Bishop William Crean. They sang and read beautifully on the day. Our second class also celebrated the sacrament of First Holy Communion on May 10th. The choir on the day under the careful stewardship of Mrs Steele was made up of children from first to sixth who played their instruments -tin whistles, guitars, violin, chime bars -and sang beautifully for the communion ceremony .
Graduation Time
It is that time of year again when wish a farewell to our sixth class. They have, as the senior class, been a great example to all other classes and a credit to themselves and their families. Sixth class, we wish you all well and we send you on way knowing that we will in the future be hearing accounts of your great achievements. A simple graduation ceremony and prayer service will be held for sixth class on Tuesday 24th of June at 7.30 pm.
