December 9, 2014

Dear Parents
Congratulations to all the pupils who won prizes in the Anti-Bullying Poster Competition –   Lucy Dowdall,                 Eilish Frobarth, Jane Hartnett, Leah lewis, Ava Mannion, Emma O’Connell, Jacob O’ Keeffe-Stinner, and Holly Tyrrell  These posters are on display in the corridor as a reminder to all that our school is a bullying free zone and when our school is a happy place we are all winners.
Congratulations to the girls Gaelic Football team who played a very competitive semi-final match against Ballinspittle. The girls would like to thank the boys who played practice matches against them at training sessions and would also like to thank the parents for their support and encouragement.

Enrolment 2015
If you wish to enrol a son or daughter to the infant class of September 2015 please fill and return the attached form to the office before Friday 5th of December. If you are aware of a friend/neighbour who may also wish to enrol a pupil for September 2015 I would appreciate it if you would ask them to make contact with the school

Record of Payments
The record of payments card has been sent to every family. This card outlines payments made and is designed to facilitate gradual payment of school monies across the school year. Please bring/send this card to school with any payments you are making or alternatively Bridie can update your card on request.

Safety of all
For the safety of your child and all of the children attending our school I would ask you to observe the SET DOWN ONLY area outside our school. I know that no parent would value a few minutes inconvenience over the safety of any child.

Concert
Our bi-annual Christmas Concert will take place in the downstairs function room in Garryvoe Hotel on Thursday December 11th at 7pm. This year our drumming teacher, Éamonn Cagney has organised a drumming performance for classes first to sixth as part of our performance.Tickets are available from the school office between 9am and 1.30 pm. Adult Ticket 10.00 euro and child 5.00. All classes will have rehearsal sessions the day before our concert. Parents are to drop children to the hotel on the morning of Wednesday 10th December between 9.10 and 9.20. The bus will oblige with this also. I would appreciate the help of infant parents to return infants to school at 11.00am.The children from First Class to Sixth Class will finish their rehearsal in the hotel at 3.00pm. Parents and bus will collect children from the hotel at 3.00pm. This rehearsal session is a great help to the children as they feel more familiar with the surroundings and so enjoy the whole experience of performing even more.

Annual Christmas Raffle
Tickets will soon be distributed to each family for our annual Christmas raffle. The draw will take place on the night of the Christmas concert.

Oak Lodge Nursing Home Churchtown
The pupils from 3rd to 6th class have again been invited to perform for the residents on Wednesday December 17th    I ask parents to volunteer their services to drive children to and from the nursing home leaving school at 11.15am to arrive at 11.30am and return at 12.30pm.  This is a great learning experience for all the children and helps to kindle a sense of civic duty and spirit of community.

Thank You To Our Parents
Thanks to all parents who have bought Christmas cards and who will over the coming weeks help us in many different ways – buying raffle tickets, ferrying children to different activities, sponsoring prizes for the raffle, transporting props and furniture to the hotel.  These events help the children by funding resources for their classrooms and giving them life experiences outside of classroom learning .These activities could not happen without your help and support.

08th December

On Monday 08th of December children will attend Mass. This will be a children’s Mass and all parents, grandparents, and neighbours are most welcome to join with us as we prepare to celebrate Christmas.

Birthday Parties

For parents who are new to our school community you may not be aware that we have a school policy regarding birthday invitations. To avoid any child feeling left out birthday invitations are not given out on school grounds.

IXL

IXL is up and running and teachers are receiving text message reports every Monday morning which details the fabulous effort pupils are putting to their IXL accounts. Keep up the good work.
